The valeditory function of the first batch of Visually Challenged students of the “English Communication and Soft Skills development” course at INSIGHT was held in the press club hall, Thiruvananthapuram on 5th June 2009. Smt. Usha Titus, Secretary, Social Welfare Department distributed the certificates to the students.

The course aimed at improving communication skills of the visually challenged was initiated by INSIGHT, by providing the visually challenged with an intuitive,inclusive environment where they were encouraged to develop their language and communication skills through various exercises and activities. Course modules were designed in such a way that ample importance were given for essential tasks such as gathering information, expressing opinions, providing information, asking questions etc.

Introduction to computers using ‘Orca’ screen reader on GNU/Linux platform was also given to the students as part of the course.

More such free courses for the benefit of the differently abled will be conducted by INSIGHT in the coming year.
