Training Programme for Visually Challenged Students

students at workA one day training on Introduction to Ubuntu GNU/Linux Operating System and Orca for the students of Blind School, Vazhuthacaud was conducted at the Insight centre on 15th November 2008. 24 visually impaired children, accompanied by a teacher were given hands-on training on using a computer with the help of Orca screen reader software.

Accessing files and folders, creating new ones, listening to their favourite song etc. were some of the skills that the children were equipped with by the end of the morning session. The afternoon session was mostly devoted to creating documents with OOWriter and some number crunching using OOCalc. The day ended with a story from the latest issue of Swaram audio magaznie.
